Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Teams Win State Championships

Two Teams. Two blue maps.

For the first time in Indian Springs history, our boys and girls soccer teams are state champions in the same year. They each won their respective Class 4A-5A championship matches on Friday, May 13, at John Hunt Soccer Complex in Huntsville.

In a rematch from last year's finals, the boys soccer team defeated Russellville 1-0 to claim a fifth state title for Indian Springs (2008, 2014, 2017, 2021). This marks the first time in school history an Indian Springs team has won back-to-back championships. Nate Tozzi ’22 scored the lone goal in the game from a penalty kick in the first half. Goalkeeper Sims Tosh ’22 shined in the second half, recording 13 saves and earning the Most Valuable Player award. The boys soccer team finished their season with a record of 21-2-5.

The girls soccer team defeated East Limestone 5-0 to claim a third state title for Indian Springs, ending a 17-year drought (2003, 2005, 2022). Beth Scarborough ’24 gave the team an early lead scoring the first goal less than three minutes into the game. Chloe Williams ’23 added a goal, and the night’s Most Valuable Player Norah Roller ’23 gained her third goal of the night with 6:24 left to play to complete her second consecutive hat trick. The girls soccer team finished their season with a record of 18-3-2.

Both teams had a difficult road to the finals, with perhaps their greatest challenge of the season coming during the semifinals held on Thursday, May 12. The boys soccer team played an undefeated Montgomery Academy during a rematch of last year’s semifinals. Tied at 3-3 after regulation and again after double overtime, the teams headed to a shoot-out where Indian Springs prevailed 4-3. The girls soccer team defeated the number two team in the state, Saint James, in double overtime. A mere 24 hours later, both teams were crowned champions.

Congratulations to both teams and coaches Rik Tozzi and Justin Pino! Go Springs!
